Tractor-trailer overturned, shutting down both northbound lanes

Traffic on Highway 51 was diverted for more than five hours early Friday after a semi tractor-trailer overturned, shutting down both northbound lanes.

The crash was reported at 3:42 a.m. Friday near mile marker 186, which lies between the Bus. Highway 51 and Highway 29 exits, according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation release.

The semi was the only vehicle involved in the crash, Marathon County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Wagers said. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment, Wagers said.

Wagers did not say if weather played a role in the crash.

Crews are working to remove the truck, which sustained severe damage, Wagers said; a guard rail was also damaged in the crash. Normal traffic resumed at about 9 a.m., Wagers said.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash. The driver’s name was not released.
