Dacono, CO : A 65-year-old Longmont man died after a traffic crash at Weld County Road 13 On Friday,14th October, 2016

A 65-year-old Longmont man died Friday night after a traffic crash in Dacono.

The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. as Gary Matzen was driving his sport utility vehicle north on Weld County Road 13, which also is known as Colorado Boulevard, in Dacono. At the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and

Summit Boulevard, his vehicle collided with another SUV. Matzen was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Weld County Coroner’s Office.

Dacono police officer Jessie Lambert said he didn’t know many details about the crash, nor could he release much of what he did know because officers were still investigating. However, he said the driver of the second SUV

left the scene before police arrived. He said it was unknown whether that driver was injured. Police were searching Saturday for that driver. He said he could not release that driver’s name.

Matzen is the 45th person to die so far this year on Weld County roads. Through this date last year, 54 people had died.
