Elvaston, IL : One killed in UTV accident at county roads 1300 East and 1500 North on Sunday, 25th August 2019

One person was killed and two were injured in an accident reported at 5:56 p.m. Sunday in an UTV accident near Elvaston, Ill.

According to the report from the Illinois State Patrol, the accident occurred at county roads 1300 East and 1500 North. The report says a CanAm UTV was driving south on 1300 East, being driven by Jared Buchanan, 23, of Carthage, Ill., and was just south of 1500 North. The driver drove off of the west side of 1300 East into a field. He then attempted to turn the CanAm UTV sideways and it rolled onto its side. A passenger was ejected and the UTV then landed on top of them.

That passenger was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Carthage, Ill., by Hancock County EMS. Another passenger, Meghan Clarkson, 18, was transported by Air Evac to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Buchanan was transported to Memorial Medical by Hancock EMS.

According to the report from the Illinois State Patrol, the driver was charged with aggravated DUI. Reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol were listed as causing the accident.
