Orange Park, FL : 1 killed in a fatal crash between a train and car on Monday, July, 13, 2015

We’re told Eryn Spillers was killed while on the tracks at Shenandoah Drive and Doctors Lake Drive.
“We’re trying to determine whether this vehicle safely stopped at the railroad crossing arms that were operating at the time, or if that vehicle attempted to maneuver around that safety crossing,” says Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan.
He says the crossing arms were down and operation at the time of the crash. They will be using surveillance from the train to help piece together the rest of the details.
There were 262 people and 13 crew on the Amtrak passenger train, according to Bryan. He says one person suffered a minor injury, but was treated on scene.
“This is about the second one in three months,” said neighbor David Bogards.
Bogards has lived in the neighborhood near the train tracks on Shenandoah Drive and Doctors Lake Drive in Orange Park for 40 years.
“There’s been several through here through the years, and many as they bend down the track,” Bogards said.
In fact, this crash happened just a few blocks away in March when an Amtrak train slammed into a car carrier and destroyed a $300,000 McLaren sports car.
Our Partner Action News found out that this crash is the fifth train versus car crash this year in our area. Of those, Monday’s is the second deadly collision.
