Belfry, KY : One killed in a fatal collision in Pike County on Thursday afternoon, November 10, 2016
Kentucky State Police, Pikeville Post 09, is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Pike County during the afternoon hours of Thursday, November 10, 2016.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Linda May of McAndrews, Ky. was traveling North on U.S. 119 in the Belfry community of Pike County.
May lost control of her 2002 GMC Envoy went over and embankment and struck a tree. Terry May, 70 of McAndrews, Ky. was a passenger in Linda May’s vehicle.
Terry May suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts.
Amara May and her one month old son as well as an unidentified male were all transported to Tug Valley ARH Medical Center.
May and the infant were later transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. and at press time both were still listed as patients at the facility.
According to a hospital spokesperson, Linda May is currently listed as a patient in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at PMC.
Evidence at the scene indicates Terry May was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
Belfry Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) responded to the scene with two trucks and ten men.
BVFD had to use the jaws-of-life to extricate three of the five occupants from the vehicle.
Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service and Tran Star Ambulance Service were called to the scene to transport the patients.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Curt Rowe.
