CARUTHERSVILLE, MO : 18-year-old arrested, charged after leading police on chase, crashing car on Friday, 2nd August 2024

A man is in custody after leading police on a chase Friday evening.

According to the Caruthersville Police Department, officers saw a car traveling more than 30 mph over the posted speed limit on S. Ward Avenue around 6:25 p.m. The officers tried to stop the vehicle but it accelerated and sped away.

The chase began near Ward Ave. & County Road 362, continued into residential areas on Walker and Vest Avenues and then returned to Ward Ave. at the I-155 overpass.

Police say the car drove recklessly at high rates of speed and violated numerous traffic laws, reaching the speed of 116 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
