Gig Harbor, WA : Motorcyclist killed in Tacoma Narrows Bridge wreck Thursday night, November 10, 2016

The Washington State Patrol on Friday identified the motorcyclist killed in a wreck Thursday night on the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge as a 23-year-old Miami man.

Jeanpaul Latorre was heading across the bridge about 6:30 p.m. at speeds of about 100 miles per hour when he crashed into a car and was thrown onto the highway, the State Patrol said.

Another vehicle then hit him.

Latorre was riding a 2011 Suzuki GSX-R1000 with a group of motorcyclists before the crash and sped ahead of the group, according to the State Patrol.

“It was so fast the other guys they couldn’t keep up,” trooper Todd Bartolac said. “When they came around the corner and passed Jackson Avenue, all they could see was a sea of red lights.”

Latorre might “not have known the bridge here” and was changing lanes on the metal grates of the span, Bartolac said.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
