A man was killed and two people were critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Elk Creek Township, according to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.
The crash, which involved a head-on collision of two vehicles, occurred at about 5:45 p.m. in the 7400 block of Route 6N, just west of Route 98.
Authorities did not release the name of the victim. Cook said the man did not have identification, but authorities believe he is about 60. Cook said the man was killed on impact.
Erie County Deputy Coroner John Maloney pronounced the man dead at the scene at 7:31 p.m.
Cook said the victim was the lone occupant in his vehicle. The other vehicle, which had two occupants, was driving at high speed when it attempted to pass on a hill and collided with the victim’s vehicle, Cook said.
The victim’s vehicle rolled over after impact, and the victim was entrapped for a while before crews could free him from the wreckage.
Two medical helicopters were sent to near the crash site to transport the two critically wounded people.
Cook said he would wait until he examines the victim on Wednesday to announce a cause of death.
