Seminary, MS : Pedestrian struck, killed by a 18-wheeler on Hwy 49 in Covington County on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2016

The pedestrian struck and killed by a 18-wheeler on Hwy 49 near Seminary has been identified.

According to MHP officer Brent Barfield, the victim was identified as Patricia Thrash, 73 of Seminary.

Barfield said the 18-wheeler was heading northbound on Hwy 49 when a pedestrian walked out onto the highway and was attempting to cross the road.

The 18-wheeler hit the pedestrian, and as a result of trying to avoid the accident, the 18-wheeler entered into a ditch and the truck overturned.

The accident stalled traffic earlier Tuesday afternoon and shut down the northbound lane for a period of time.
