Two Bullitt County teens killed in Woodford wreck early Friday

Two young women from Bullitt County were killed early Friday morning when their car crashed in Woodford County.A third person in the car was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens identified the two who died as Destinee Barr, 18, who was driving, and Marissa Elmore, 19, a back-seat passenger.The front-seat passenger, Miranda Smith, 18, of Louisville, was listed in stable condition at UK Hospital.According to authorities, Barr attempted to make a left turn from Ky. 341, or Georgetown Road, onto Leestown Road, just after midnight and she pulled into the path of a 1997 Dodge pickup truck.Owens said the pickup driver, Shane Trent, told police that the 2005 Kia halted at a stop sign, then swung in front of him as he neared the intersection.
Trent suffered minor injuries, Owens said.Owens said the crash apparently occurred just moments after the car had exited Interstate 64. They apparently were on their way to visit someone at UK, he said.Owens said weather probably was a factor in the crash.Marissa Elmore's mother, Jane Elmore, told the Lexington Herald-Leader Friday that she had attempted to call her daughter at 11:52 p.m. Thursday because she hadn't heard from her. She awoke at 3 a.m. to text her youngest child, but by that time it was too late.
"I tried all three of their phones, but no one answered," she said. "I was sending her a text — and I saw lights out the window. It was the police."She said Marissa and her friend Destinee Barr had known each other since middle school and they both loved to travel. They had taken a trip to Panama City Beach, Fla., in the summer, she said."They were good friends," Jane Elmore said. "They were wonderful girls."
