Ashville, AL : Man dies in single-vehicle accident north of Ashville Monday, March 13, 2017

A single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon claimed the life of an Ashville man.

Senior Trooper Reginal King identified the victim as Joseph O’Neal Williams, 27. King said Williams was killed when the 2007 Ford Taurus he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.

King said Williams, who was not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The trooper said the crash occurred on Interstate 59 near the 171 mile marker, approximately 4 miles north of Ashville. The crash happened around 2 p.m.

“Although the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, speed is believed to be a factor,” King said.

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
