A 73-year-old Gales Ferry woman was killed Thursday when she lost control of her car on Route 9 south and crashed into a bridge, according to state police.
Kathleen B. Tedeschi of Gales Ferry was driving a 2005 Volvo on Route 9 south at 2:30 p.m. near the junction of Interstate 95 when her car traveled off the roadway into the grassy area and collided with an I-95 bridge abutment, according to Connecticut State Police Troop F Sgt. Sal Calvo.
She was airlifted by LifeStar to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she was pronounced dead, Calvo said.
The highway was closed for 45 minutes while emergency workers and police cleared the scene.
