Lyndhurst woman dies in Parkman crash

A Lyndhurst woman died following a one-vehicle rollover crash April 2, according to a statement from the Chardon post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 2:45 p.m. when a 2012 Buick Lucerna driven by 88-year-old Alvaro Cortez, also a Lyndhurst resident, went off the left side of Old State Road as it traveled southeast, officials report.

The Buick went off the road just southeast of Amblaire Road, struck a culvert and a mailbox. It then went back across the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned before coming to rest in a ditch, the highway patrol reported.

Cortez was transported to UH Geauga Medical Center by the Parkman Township Fire Department, where he was treated for his injuries, the OHP statement said. His passenger, 82-year-old Guadalupe Cortez, of Lyndhurst, was also transported by Parkman Township Fire Department personnel to UH Geauga Medical Center, where she later died because of the injuries she suffered in the crash, the highway patrol said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Parkman Township, Troy Township and Middlefield fire departments all responded to the scene to assist OHP personnel.
