Seattle, WA : 54-year-old driver arrested in connection to a fatal crash with a scooter in South Seattle on Friday, Sep 11, 2015
A 54-year-old driver was arrested in the Mount Baker are of South Seattle Friday night after a crash with a Moped that led to the scooter driver's death, police say.
Investigators believe the van driver was impaired about 6:15 p.m., when he attempted to make a right turn onto eastbound South Bayview Street from northbound Rainier Avenue South. He failed to yield the right-of-way to the traffic with the green light across Rainier Avenue and hit the 63-year-old Moped driver, who was headed east on South Bayview, Seattle police reports indicate.
The moped driver was identified by the King County Medical Examiner as Robert Price.
The 54-year-old man drove a Chrysler van.
Price was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.
A cop with special training in recognizing drug and alcohol impairment determined the 54-year-old was intoxicated, Seattle police say.
Police arrested him and booked him into King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide, where he remains held on $200,000 bail.
Charges have not yet been filed in the case.
