HELENDALE, CA : Helendale woman, 90, succumbs to injuries suffered in National Trails Highway crash on Friday, 23rd September 2016
Authorities said an elderly Helendale woman who was airlifted to a local trauma center after a traffic collision last week succumbed to injuries on Friday.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department identified the woman as Irene Dingman, 90, who was pronounced dead at Loma Linda University Medical Center just before 5 p.m.
Dingman was admitted into the trauma center with major injuries suffered in a head-on collision on National Trails Highway on Sept. 19, according to the coroner’s report.
Authorities responded to the crash just after 7 p.m. and learned that Dingman was traveling westbound in a 2006 Toyota Highlander and for reasons under investigation made a left-hand turn directly in front of an oncoming 2003 Nissan 350Z, driven by a 34-year-old Phelan woman. Extrication was required to free both women from their vehicles.
The Phelan woman was also airlifted with major injuries and her status was unknown Monday morning. According to previous reports the woman fractured both her legs and suffered lacerations on her torso.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by California Highway Patrol.
