Salisbury, NC : Trash truck crashes, overturns, driver to be charged with DWI on Providence Church Road on Wednesday afternoon, November 23, 2016

The driver of a trash truck that wrecked on Providence Church Road on Wednesday afternoon will be facing a driving while impaired charge, according to a trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened just before 1:30 in the 200 block of Providence Church Road. The trash truck ran off the road and then turned over. The vehicle was very heavily damaged.

The driver was thrown from the truck but was conscious, according to witnesses. He is being taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. His name and condition have not been released.

Officials said when they first arrived at the scene, the driver was "confused," and led them to fear a second person may have been trapped under the truck. They said there was no second person.

Providence Church Road was shut down for about 90 minutes while crews worked at the scene.
