Winchester , VA : 15- years boy was killed after Hit and run crash near Winchester on Friday morning, December 19th 2014

Detectives with the Virginia State Police on Saturday continued to look for the person who ran over a 15-year-old boy near Winchester, driving off and leaving the victim in the road. The teenager, Tristan Long, died at the scene Friday morning.

“They have some good, solid leads,” said Corinne Geller, a state police spokeswoman.

Authorities said Saturday evening that a Volkswagen Beetle was voluntarily surrendered to state police and was processed. It has since been returned to its owner, Geller said. No arrests were reported.

The initial investigation of the crash showed that about 7 a.m. Friday, Long was walking along Rest Church Road in the Clear Brook area, near the West Virginia border, state police said. The car hit him from behind.

Long was a sophomore at James Wood High School and recently earned enough badges to become an Eagle Scout, said Barrett Norris, a family friend. “He was just waiting on the ceremony,” Norris said.
