Des Moines, IA : Officer recovering from injuries suffered in collision at Des Moines intersection on Wednesday, Aug 19, 2015

Authorities say a Des Moines police officer is recovering from injuries suffered in a collision between his patrol car and a pickup.

The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police say the officer was heading east to the scene of an investigation when his car collided at an intersection with the southbound pickup. A police spokesman, Sgt. Paul Parizek, says the officer was knocked out by the impact but regained consciousness on his way to Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Parizek identified the officer as 41-year-old Mark Chapman, a 15-year veteran of the force.

The pickup driver wasn't injured.

The collision is being investigated.
