Two adults were transported to DeTar hospital in Victoria after an ATV accident early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3 a.m. DeWitt County dispatch received a call that two adults were driving an ATV on private property when they drove off of a 40-foot embankment into the Guadalupe River.
According to DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen, when deputy Michael Kelley and DPS Trooper Tre Gray arrived on scene one victim was conscious and one was unconscious. Kelley, Gray and a Cuero EMS responder entered the water and were able to get both victims to the river bank and keep them stable until EMS could reach them.
Due to the steep bank of the river a rescue boat had to be used to reach the victims. The boat entered the water a couple of miles up river at Hells Gate bridge. Once the victims were loaded in the rescue boat they were transported back to Hells Gate bridge and taken to DeTar Hospital. Both were conscious before being transported to DeTar Hospital according to Sheriff Bowen.
