Sebewaing, MI : 25-year-old Romeo man died after motorcycle crash in Troy on Thursday, May 19, 2016
A 25-year-old Romeo man died late Thursday in a motorcycle crash in Troy after, police say, he hit a curb and was thrown several feet from the accident.
The crash occurred at 10:26 p.m. in the area of Big Beaver and Daley roads, Troy police say. Investigators learned that the motorcyclist was driving a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Big Beaver Road when he lost control and hit a curb on the south side of the roadway.
He was ejected from the motorcycle and hit a sign, officials report. Arriving officers found the man several feet from the site of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses later told authorities that prior to the crash, the 25-year-old was spotted “driving erratically in and out of traffic with two other motorcycles,” according to a statement from the Troy Police Department.
The other motorcycle drivers were not involved in the crash and were uninjured. The Romeo man, whose name is being withheld pending family notifications, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, officers say.
Eastbound Big Beaver Road was closed for about four hours while police investigated the incident.
The investigation, which is being handled by the Troy Police Department and the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team, is still underway.
