FLORIDA, FL : Lake Mary man killed in hit-and-run crash FHP on Saturday, 17th February 2024
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are searching for a driver who hit and killed a Lake Mary man early Saturday morning.
According to a press release, a vehicle was traveling southbound in the inside lane of US-301.
The driver struck a 63-year-old Lake Mary man who was walking in the roadway south of CR-102.
The family of the victim identified the man as Michael Berry. They're asking for the community's help to find the driver who hit and killed him." It's just unfathomable to me that the human being can act this way. Especially to a person who is as innocent as my dad was. So it's devastated our family, his friends, his community," said Michael's son Max Berry.
Michael lived in Lake Mary, but he was in Sumter County for the weekend when the crash happened. His family said he was a loving father and grandfather."I'll miss seeing him play with my son and be a loving grandfather," said Max. "Words cannot describe how much I miss him."
Michael was also a storyteller. His son says Michael previously wrote for the Orlando Sentinel and most recently was writing for the Lake Mary Life Magazine. His son hopes sharing his story will help bring them answers." I haven't slept. I've spent every waking hour trying to talk to people and have them share my post on Facebook and get the word out and cast this net so that we can hopefully get the tip that they will finally allow this person to be brought in," said Max.
The suspect car is believed to be a 1992-1997 Ford Bronco or F-Series Ford Pickup truck with an unknown color.
The car will be missing its left front headlight housing, troopers said.
