Bay City,MI: Man gets up from desk seconds before SUV crashes into his office on October, Thursday 12th 2017

Mark Jacques had just gotten up from his desk at New Executive Mortgage when he heard brakes screech and felt the rumble of a Chevrolet Trailblazer crashing into the brick exterior wall on the other side of his office.

His desk chair was only a couple feet away from the wall, which is now cracked and protruding into the office.

"It was pretty wacky," said Jacques, a loan originator for the business. "If I hadn't come up, I doubt I would have been injured -- maybe a love tap -- but still, it's a little crazy."

A two car crash occurred after 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the intersection of West Midland Street and Wenona Avenue. Police confirmed the Trailblazer was traveling westbound on Midland when it crashed with a white Pontiac Montana minivan that was traveling eastbound on Midland.

There were minor injuries to those involved, including some children, police confirmed.

Police are still investigating how the crash happened, but employees inside New Executive Mortgage say this is nothing new. They accounted for at least three other recent accidents that have resulted in a vehicle striking their building.

Jacques said the business is going to be asking the city to sink pillars into the northwest corner of the intersection to serve as an extra barrier between an oncoming car and the building. The main problem, he said, is that the road narrows to one lane after crossing Wenona Avenue.

"When it pitches down to one lane and there's a green light, these people are fighting for the one lane," Jacques said. "And when they come through, they're literally going double the speed limit."

Action Towing assisted the Bay City Public Safety Department at the crash. The scene was cleaned up by 3:30 p.m.
