Authorities said 20 children, from first-graders to seniors, suffered injuries when two school buses collided on Mississippi 26 in George County.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Benjamin Seibert told The Sun Herald that two buses were both eastbound at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday. He said the first stopped to let students off and the second rear-ended it.
Seibert said 20 students were initially taken to George Regional Hospital for injuries mostly consisting of lacerations, bruises and sprains. He said one child suffered a broken leg and a 9-year-old girl was taken to a Mobile, Alabama, hospital with serious injuries.
Seibert said the girl was released from the hospital Wednesday night, and all but five of the other children had been released from the emergency room.
The crash is under investigation.
