At about 2:40 a.m., troopers received reports of a Jeep Cherokee traveling east on the westbound lanes of Loop 101 near 19th Avenue, said Bart Graves, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Five minutes later, calls indicated that the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction had struck a minivan near Seventh Avenue.
In the minivan was a Glendale family, with a mother in the driver's seat and her three young daughters in the back, Graves said. The father of the children was following in another vehicle and saw the crash.
