Pedestrian struck twice, killed on Little Rock Arkansas

A Sherwood woman is dead after authorities say she was struck by two vehicles consecutively while walking across Interstate 630 in Little Rock on Sunday night.Rhonda L. Vanpelt, 48, was killed 9:54 p.m. after being hit near mile marker 2 on eastbound I-630. Vanpelt was initially struck by a 2006 Volvo S60 driven by Alexis A. Krone, 18, who was traveling in the center lane, according to an Arkansas State Police report.The second car, a 2003 Buick Century driven by Monica Blanks, 24, hit Vanpelt following the first collision. Blanks’ vehicle was traveling eastbound behind Krone’s at the time of the accident. Neither driver was injured, according to the report.It wasn't immediately clear why Vanpelt was crossing the interstate. The report describes the weather condition as clear and the road condition as dry at the time of the accident.Vanpelt is the 415th fatality on Arkansas roads in 2013.
