Two California Highway Patrol officers rushing to assist a colleague in a traffic stop were injured in Redwood City early Thursday when their patrol car careened out of control on Highway 101 and crashed into the center divider, officials said.
The officers were traveling south on Highway 101 just after 3 a.m. when for unknown reasons the officer driving lost control of the car just south of Whipple Avenue and slammed into the center median, said Officer Art Montiel, a CHP spokesman.
Both officers had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews, Montiel said. They were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, Montiel said.
