JACKSONVILLE, FL : Day of beauty honors teenager killed in crash on Saturday, December 31st 2016
Shampoos, haircuts and makeup done Saturday at Aveda in Mandarin were given in honor of a 16-year-old girl who died in a crash last week. Funds from the day were donated to funeral expenses for Autumn Branham.
Branham died Dec. 20 when her car crossed the median on I-10 and drove into the path of a Ford F-350 pickup truck. The collision knocked her car into the path of a tractor-trailer "Some moments are harder than others, but this is what she would want us to do," said Autumn's mother, Chauna Branham. "(We) Would want us to carry on and continue on with our lives and continue on with our dreams."
Branham finished her GED at 15 and worked at a KFC for a while so she could finish her cosmetology training at Aveda as a full-time student. She would have finished before her 18th birthday.
"She's been dabbling in playing with makeup since she was 3 years old, playing with hair," her mother said. "I always knew that this would be her passion."
Her classmates put on Saturday's event, volunteering their time so all the proceeds, including tips, would go to funeral costs for Autumn, who did not have life insurance.
"We love Autumn and we miss her," Autumn's classmate, Antonio Ramos, said.
