Southington, CT : Waterbury woman dies in I-84 crash on Thursday, July 28, 2016
According to a spokesperson for the Hartford Hospital, a 26-year-old woman who is the daughter of a city alderwoman has died.
Joanna McCarthy, 26, succumbed to grave injuries and died at about 5:52 p.m Friday, the spokesperson said.
At about 9 a.m Thursday the Hyundai Elantra McCarthy was driving swerved across the median on Interstate 84, crashing head on into a pick up truck that was heading in the opposite direction.
McCarthy's car carshed into David Edwards, of New Brunswick, Canada, Dodge Ram.
The impact sent Edwards Ram into the front of a Fed Ex truck, which was being operated by John Knowlton, 59, of Southwick Mass.
Edwards was taken to Hartford Hospital with suspected injuries, at the time, and Knowlton had no reported injuries on scene.
McCarthy is daughter to Sandra Martinez-McCarthy, who serves on the city's board of alderman.
Friends of McCarthy expressed thier grief of McCarthy's untimely passing, on Facebook.
Courtney Cauley said, "such a sweet soul gone too soon. Her laugh was infectious and her personality would take over the room. You will forever be loved."
