Santa Rosa, NM : 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman killed in a crash involving two semi-trucks on I-40 near Santa Rosa on Monday, December 28, 2015

New Mexico State Police say a 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were killed in a crash involving two semi-trucks on I-40 eastbound near Santa Rosa on Monday.

According to the preliminary investigation, a semi-truck traveling on I-40 began slowing down in order to take exit 277. Police say a Honda passenger car failed to reduce speed and collided into the rear of the truck.

A second semi was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the back of the Honda.
Samuel Herrera, 25, and Katherine Herrera, 24, were both killed in the collision. Both are from Arlington, Texas. No other injuries were reported.

Alcohol, weather and road conditions are not believed to have been factors in the crash, according to NMSP. The incident remains under investigation.
