A 55-year-old man died and another was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover Monday morning.
Shortly before 9 a.m., Randy Leeman of Paris was driving north on Illinois 49 at Champaign County Road 200N near Allerton when he failed to negotiate a curve and exited the right side of the road, Illinois State Police said.
His blue 2001 Chevrolet Malibu hit a ditch and went airborne, flipping over multiple times before landing upright in a ditch, police said.
He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:18 a.m., Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said. An autopsy showed that he died of multiple blunt-force trauma wounds.
His passenger, a 22-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
At this time, it’s unknown whether they were wearing seat belts, and the accident continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office and the state police.
