A woman walking along Route 108 here this morning was badly injured when she was struck by a mini-van.
The Somersworth Police Department, EMS from American Ambulance and the Somersworth Fire Department responded at about 6:09 this morning to the area of 362 Route 108 for a report of a pedestrian that was struck by a single motor vehicle. The accident occurred between Gator Rock Road and Interstate Drive.
The vehicle was operated by John Lafrenier, 44, of Farmington. He was driving a 1999 green Honda Odyssey and heading south of Route 108. The pedestrian, identified as Sandra Rowley, 55, of Rochester, was walking on Route 108, also heading south.
Lafrenier's vehicle struck Rowley with the right front side and caused serious bodily injury to her, police said in a press release. Rowley was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover with a serious head injury. She was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The accident remains under investigation by the Somersworth Police Department and the Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team.
