Eugene, OR : All lanes reopen on Interstate 5 following crash near Albany on Friday, 12th August, 2016
Two crashes, including a collision between trucks, caused an hours-long traffic jam on Interstate 5 near Albany on Friday.
All northbound lanes of I-5 were reopened around 2:30 p.m. after the crashes shut down the area and backed up traffic for at least 15 miles.
Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Lou Torres said the interstate was “pretty much a parking lot” from the Ankeny Hill exit to south of Albany.
A U-Haul truck and a large truck pulling a semitrailer of diesel oil collided near the Ankeny Hill exit about seven miles north of Albany around noon, causing the semi truck to jackknife and overturn, Torres said.
A second separate crash took place nearby, Torres said. The cause of both crashes are under investigation.
Torres said the crashes caused injuries, but did not have any information on their severity.
Crews spent the afternoon mopping up the 200 gallons of diesel that spilled on the freeway and moving the damaged vehicles, Torres said.
