Springfield, MO : Woman killed in crash, driver of second vehicle suspected of drunken driving on Battlefield Road in Springfield on Tuesday, February 10, 2015
A Springfield woman was killed in an early morning crash in which another driver has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Springfield police say Kelly D. Williams, 38, was driving a car north on Campbell Avenue, turning left on Battlefield Road about 1 a.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a pickup truck traveling south on Campbell near the intersection. Williams was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police say the truck was driven by Dylan A. Meyer, 20, with a passenger, Seth D. Perkins, 22, both of Springfield.
Police say Meyer and Perkins both suffered minor injuries and Meyer was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. On Tuesday afternoon, Meyer was charged with involuntary manslaughter, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
A probable cause statement says the pickup truck was traveling 95 mph leading up to the crash, and Williams' car was split in two by the impact.
The statement says first responders could smell "a strong odor of intoxicants" coming from Meyer, and when they asked him how much he had to drink, his response was "enough." When asked about drug use, Meyer told first responders "I've done every drug," the statement says.
A bond recommendation document says Meyer's toxicology results show an alcohol level of .266 and the presence of cannabinoids.
The probable cause statement says an officer was working an off-duty assignment at the Walgreens at the corner of Battlefield Road and Campbell Avenue at the time of the crash.
Court records show Meyer was previously charged in Greene County as a minor being visibly intoxicated. The records show he failed to appear for a court date last month and had a warrant issued for his arrest.
He also has a misdemeanor conviction for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia out of Pulaski County. He was given two years probation on that conviction.
Meyer is being held in Greene County Jail on $75,000 bond.
