Columbus, OH : 17-year-old driver from Columbus dies after Delaware County crash on Monday, 9th April 2018
A 17-year-old Columbus driver was killed Monday when he lost control of his car and crashed into an oncoming vehicle on Route 23 in southern Delaware County.
Thaddeus Laurol was northbound in a 2007 Toyota Camry about 11:45 a.m. when it veered across the centerline and collided with a southbound 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Neil G. Berberick, 58, of Delaware, according to the Delaware post of the State Highway Patrol.
The passenger side of Laurol’s vehicle took most of the impact. He was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Berberick suffered minor injuries; he was not taken to a hospital.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation.
Laurol was a senior at Northland High School in Columbus and a member of Karl Road Baptist Church. Counselors will be on hand at the high school Tuesday.
The crash occurred just south of Green Meadows Drive about a mile north of a similar head-on crash on Route 23 on Dec. 14 in which two people were killed and one person was injured.
