Alex City, AL : Montgomery man killed in single-vehicle wreck on Hix Road near Sasser Road on Tuesday, 28th April, 2020

A Montgomery man is dead after a single-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer north of Alex City.

State Trooper Michael Carswell said 55-year-old Anthony L. Smith was killed shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Smith was traveling on Hix Road near Sasser Road, about eight miles north of Alex City, when the 2005 Volvo tractor-trailer he was driving struck wires hanging over the roadway.

After striking the wires, the truck hit a utility pole then went off the roadway and overturned.

Smith was not using his seat belt when the wreck occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
