RIVERSIDE, PA : One hurt in 'Narrows' crash on Thursday, 17th May 2018
Firefighters cut the roof off of an SUV to free a driver from the wreckage of a two-vehicle crash in an area known as "The Narrows" on Route 54 in Riverside Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses didn't believe the older man was seriously injured in the SUV-tractor-trailer accident shortly after 1 p.m., near Hillside Drive.
"We had to take the whole top off. He was pinched in slightly," Southside Fire Company Deputy Chief Jon Stassel said of the driver of the silver Ford Escape.
This was the second accident this week to tie up traffic in Riverside and the Riverside area.
On Tuesday afternoon, strong winds blew a tractor-trailer over on the Danville-Riverside Bridge, resulting in detours and the bridge closed for three hours.
The truck driver in the latest crash — Jasprett Singh, 32, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada — said he wasn't hurt. He was headed from Elysburg to Interstate 80 and the SUV was traveling toward Elysburg, he said. The SUV landed against the rocky cliffs along the highway.
