Two people died and three people were hurt in a Tuesday afternoon crash in Saginaw County, state police troopers report. Rescuers also found a 5-day-old infant unscathed. The infant was riding in a properly installed car seat.
Michigan State Police from the Tri-City Post report the crash occurred at 1:17 p.m. on Midland Road near Kochville Road in Tittabawassee Township.
Troopers and first responders arrived at the scene to find two vehicles — a Chevrolet SUV and a car — had collided nearly head-on, and the car came to a rest on its driver side.
The lone occupant of the Chevy, 70-year-old Mildred Katherine Bommarito of Freeland, and the driver of the car, 19-year-old Jordan Timothy Garchow of Saginaw Township, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger of Garchow’s vehicle, Sarah Amanda Coyle, 17, of Saginaw Township, was flown to the St. Mary’s of Michigan hospital by FlightCare.
The back seat passengers riding in Garchow’s vehicle were Bethany Leigh Coyle, 19, Midland, William Kyle Starks, 20, Shepherd, and 5-day-old Brindley Garchow, of Saginaw Township. A media release from troopers states Brindley was properly secured in her child safety seat and is the only occupant who was not hurt in the crash.
