Jersey City, NJ : 83-year-old driver crashes car on Route 1&9 North near Communipaw Avenue early Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016

An 83-year-old New York man crashed his car early this morning after he failed to see that the roadway had curved, according to an accident report.

At about 5:30 a.m., the Flushing man came off the Carson-Nguyen Memorial Bridge and attempted to follow Route 1&9 North near Communipaw Avenue, police said. But the man he did not realize there was a bend in the road, and he drove over two curb medians and he struck a traffic sign, the report said.

The driver refused medical attention and his 2011 Honda was towed from the scene, police said.

The state Department of Transportation was notified of the damage done to the traffic sign, the report said.
