Belt, MT : One died in fatal crash near Belt early Saturday on August 30, 2014
The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred near Belt early Saturday.
Reports indicate a 31-year-old Belt woman died in the crash; her name has not yet been released.
According to Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards, the Belt Fire Department responded to a report of a downed power line at the intersection of Lewis Street and Armington Road just before 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.
When they arrived on scene they found a Chevy Suburban off the road and down a steep embankment.
According to MHP, the accident happened at around 4 a.m.
The Suburban was traveling east on Armington Road when the driver failed to negotiate a left turn.
The driver then hit the power pole and went down the embankment, and she was thrown from the vehicle.
The vehicle caught fire, but it was out by the time firefighters arrived.
Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
The MHP is still investigating the incident.
