Brentwood, CA : Motorcyclist injured in crash at Orwood and Bixler roads on Tuesday night, August 2, 2016
A motorcyclist suffered major injuries but was expected to survive after a crash Tuesday night that may have been caused by an oil slick, authorities said.
A medical helicopter took the man, believed to be in his 60s, to a hospital after the wreck in a rural, unincorporated part of Brentwood.
"We have heard nothing to indicate that he won't be OK," Battalion Chief Brian Helmick of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said. "But obviously, anytime you're airlifted, it's pretty serious."
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which happened at Orwood and Bixler roads. Emergency crews were dispatched at 8:39 p.m.
According to Helmick, oil that appeared to have leaked from another vehicle and onto the roadway may have been a factor in the motorcycle to go down.
Fire crews blocked off space for a medical helicopter to land, and the motorcyclist went to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Helmick said. The person's condition Wednesday morning was not available immediately.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
