NEW BEDFORD, MA : Charges likely after Sunday morning crash injures two on Sunday, February 19th 2017
New Bedford, Massachusetts
Police are investigating a Sunday morning Brock Avenue crash that resulted in serious injuries for two women, police said.
It will also likely lead to criminal charges, police said.
The crash, which occurred in the area of 790 Brock Ave., was reported around 2 a.m., Lt. Amos Melo, a spokesman for the New Bedford Police Department, said in a news release.
Officers found a vehicle that had struck a tree in front of 790 Brock Ave. Prior to that, it had also struck a parked car in front of 766 Brock Ave., Melo said.
There was also damage to a street sign, fence and bushes near 790 Brock Ave., he said.
The driver, a 31-year-old New Bedford woman, and passenger, a 33-year-old North Easton woman, were extricated from the vehicle by New Bedford fire fighters. Both women were transported to Rhode Island hospital with serious injuries, Melo said.
Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crashes occurred, according to Melo. The crashes remain under investigation by the New Bedford Police Accident Reconstruction Team and "charges will more than likely be forthcoming,” Melo said.
