Hawthorne,CA : 49 - Years old bicyclist killed after riding through red light, struck by caron Friday ,July 10th 2015

A 49-year-old man, riding a bicycle against a red light, was struck and killed by a car in Hawthorne, the California Highway Patrol said today.

The bicyclist’s name was released by the CHP as Fernando Gamboa, of Los Angeles. The name was not released by the coroner, however.

Gamboa pedaled into the path of an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Camaro on Imperial Highway, east of Sundale Avenue, about 6:58 p.m. Friday, according to a CHP crash report .

The Camaro hit the bicyclist with its front bumper and left fender. The bicyclist was thrown east about 20 feet, and rolled to a stop in the eastbound number one lane.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:06 p.m. Friday.

“Family members of the bicyclist arrived on scene and were notified,” according to the CHP.
