Hinds County, MS : One student critical after Hinds County school bus accident on Wednesday to Norrell Road and Old Highway 80, west of Clinton on August 13, 2014

There is at least one very serious injury following a Wednesday afternoon Hinds County school bus accident. The accident occurred shortly before around 3:20 PM, west of Clinton on US 80, near Norrell Road. The bus was carrying 9 people, 8 students and the driver. AMR says they have transported 7 patients from the bus wreck, six students and one adult. One, student with life-threatening injuries, is in critical condition at UMMC. The other six, including the bus driver, are suffering from less serious, non-life threatening injuries, and were taken to other area hospitals. The four taken to CMMC have been released. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry says another vehicle crossed the center line of Highway 80 and forced the school bus off the road. Investigators are looking for the driver of a white van who they believed caused this crash. Trooper Henry says in order to avoid impact with the van, the bus driver swerved, hit a guardrail and a tree. "It actually didn't make contact but it was a vehicle that caused an accident which can he considered as a hit and run even though they did not make contact," said Trooper Henry. "Hopefully maybe somebody that knows something will come forward give us information so we're pretty much going off on tips, if we get any in."
