Canton, MS : Driver killed in 18-wheeler wreck on I-55 in Madison County early Saturday morning, August 6, 2016

MHP and Madison County officials responded to I-55 northbound, near the 127 mile marker, early Saturday morning for a deadly wreck.

Corporal Eric Henry with MHP says the victim has been identified as 67-year-old Robert McDavis of Prairie.

Henry said McDavis was the driver of the 18-wheeler and he died at the scene of the accident.

We're told officials responded around 7:10 a.m. to the vehicle accident.

Officials say the 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on I-55 when the driver ran off the roadway and struck several trees. The rig then became engulfed in flames and burned.

Corporal Henry said the Canton Fire Department responded to the scene to put out the flames on the truck.

The tractor trailer belongs to Marten Transportation of New Albany.

The accident is under investigation.
