Jackson, MS : Man arrested after fleeing crash that killed mother and son on Highway 80 near Green Hill Road on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016
A man is facing charges in connection with a crash that killed a 40-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son.
Cadelia Harris and her son, Jarrett, died early Saturday morning at the scene of the crash on Highway 80 near Green Hill Road, authorities said.
Harris and her son, both of Edwards, were traveling east on Highway 80 when a car traveling west, which was driven by Trameka Flowers, 22, was struck in the rear by a maroon Chrysler 300, which was also traveling westbound, Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers said.
Flowers lost control of her car and traveled into the eastbound lane, striking Harris’ vehicle head-on, troopers said. Harris and her son, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, were killed. Flowers and a passenger in her car were taken to Merit Health in Vicksburg, where they were treated for serious injuries, MHP said.
The driver of the Chrysler 300, identified as Cedrick Blackmore, of Vicksburg, left the scene of the crash, MHP said. The car was later found at 65 Smallwood St. in Vicksburg and was towed, MHP said. Blackmore was later arrested and taken to the Warren County Jail. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, but more charges are pending, troopers said.
