Krotz Springs, LA : 2 Avoyelles residents killed in early crash on U.S. Highway 71, south of Alexandria on Friday, 3rd January, 2020

An early Friday crash killed two people from Avoyelles Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

It happened around 1:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 71, south of Alexandria, reads a release. Neither person in the car was wearing a seat belt.

Bunkie resident Hoang Thai Nguyen, 43, was driving a 2015 Nissan southbound when he lost control, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

He and his only passenger, 40-year-old Marksville resident Le Bui Chatelain, were seriously injured and taken to separate hospitals. Both were pronounced dead, according to the release.
