NEWBURYPORT, MA : Haverhill man to face charges for Market Square hit-and-run crash on Thursday, 22nd August 2019

Local police believe they know who crashed into a Market Square lamppost and planter and then fled the scene Thursday morning. They have issued a summons for a Haverhill man to district court.

Mark A. Ramos, 25, was ordered to appear at the Newburyport courthouse in the near future to answer for three counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

According to police, Ramos was caught on video traveling through Market Square in a large white pickup truck with a long black trailer. Trying to navigate the turn around the Bullnose onto State Street, Ramos left the road and sheered off a lamppost and planter. He then continued on State Street without stopping.

A description of the truck was relayed to other departments via radio as it headed southbound on Route 1 toward the traffic circle and then toward Rowley.

“It sounded like a bomb went off,” Rowley resident Shelby Hawkes said on Thursday.
