SUMNER COUNTY, TN : 1 dead after car crashes into water in Sumner County on Tuesday, 4th January 2021

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports a woman has died after her car crashed and went into a pond in Sumner County off of Highway 76.

Sumner County’s emergency management director said the water rescue occurred near Bottom View Farms and River Church near Portland.

THP said a 2006 Toyota Sienna was traveling east down Highway 76 before it hit a bush and went into the pond. Forty-two-year-old Nesha Knight from Cottontown died as a result of the crash.

The Hendersonville Fire Department Dive Team was dispatched as part of the mutual aid call made in northern Sumner County.
