Carlisle, PA : Three people injured after two-vehicle crash in downtown Carlisle on Monday morning, July 25, 2016
Three people were taken to the hospital late Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash at the corner of East North and North East streets in Carlisle. An Advanced Disposal garbage truck was traveling east on East North Street around 11 a.m. when it collided with a Toyota Camry with two occupants traveling on North East Street, according to Carlisle Police. The garbage truck struck the Camry broadside on the driver’s side, police said. Both occupants of the Camry had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel and were taken to the hospital because of their injuries. The driver of the garbage truck was also taken by ambulance to the hospital as a result of the crash, according to police. Wendy Zimmerman, who lives on East North Street, said she was on her porch at the time and witnessed the crash. “I was sitting on my front porch ... when the garbage truck came down the street,” Zimmerman said. “I noticed the driver on his phone. The next thing I heard the brakes lock up and heard the impact.” Police said the crash was still under investigation, but it was evident one of the drivers likely ran a red light at the intersection.
