Portland, OR : One person died and another seriously injured when car crashed into a concrete pillar in Northeast Portland early Sunday, April 19, 2015

A car slammed into a concrete pillar on the 33rd Avenue overpass early Sunday morning, killing one person and seriously injuring another.

The single-car crash happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. The driver, 19-year-old Destini Jordaire Washington, was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The passenger, 19-year-old Alexandria Cooper, was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

Washington has been booked into Multnomah County Jail on charges of first degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and reckless endangerment. She is expected to be arraigned on Monday.

Investigators said Washington was driving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata westbound on Columbia Boulevard shortly before 3 a.m. She was driving at a high speed and lost control of her car before she crashed, Portland Police Bureau said.

Northeast Columbia Boulevard was closed for several hours while officers investigated the crash.
